Housing
There are a number of different housing options depending on your preferences. Most residents choose to rent during residency, but some choose to purchase homes or condominiums. Prices vary significantly depending on location. UCLA offers a housing stipend to help offset the cost of living.
Housing Stipend: $12,000 for the entire academic year or $1,000 each month, paid as wages and subject to withholdings (i.e., taxes).
A few of the more popular neighborhoods that residents have chosen to live in include Westwood, Brentwood, Sawtelle, Santa Monica, Century City, Palms, Culver City, and West Hollywood. However, residents have also chosen to live further away, including in the San Fernando Valley and the South Bay.
A number of UCLA-owned apartments are available for rent to residents and graduate students. The Boulevard Apartments is a five-building complex where medical house staff receive priority. This housing is typically quite affordable and includes amenities such as Internet and laundry. These units can come furnished at a higher rate as well. For more information, please see this webpage.
